STAY INSPIRED: SHELTER IN PLACE 2020
DECEMBER 10 – JANUARY 30, 2021
DOLBY CHADWICK GALLERY, SAN FRANCISCO
The show is the outcome of a project of the same name, which initially began as a single email, sent in mid-March, when we were just starting to understand the scale of the pandemic’s impact on our lives and communities.

Curated by Mark Starel, this international exhibition, COVIMETRY, is a global manifestation of various trends in geometric art (constructive, hard edge, minimal art, op-art, concrete art, non-objective art, discursive geometry and other tendencies), that is aware of its time.
232 artists from 36 countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia take part in the exhibition.
Mark Starel is an art professor at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Poland, an artist and curator of Visual Arts Institute gallery.
TIME SHADOW VIDEO 2020
‘Time Shadow’ is an exhibition of recent work by Bernadette Jiyong Frank. Her highly layered compositions are notable for their striking geometric abstraction, effecting a multidimensionality that is both solid and ethereal. Though they exhibit strong formal parallels to natural phenomena, her paintings also move beyond the visual realm to one that can only be experienced with eyes closed.
Inside the studio 2020
In this video, Bernadette Jiyong Frank takes us into her studio where she works on new pieces for her July/August 2020 solo exhibition, “Time Shadow.” Watch as she glazes, sands and builds hundreds of layers of paint onto the surface of her panels. The result is striking geometric abstractions that are both solid and ethereal.

ART IN EMBASSIES, BAHRAIN 2018
CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
US Ambassador to Bahrain, Justin Siberell, a native Californian from Hillsborough, graciously invited me to participate in the Cultural Exchange Program through the Art in Embassies. My husband, Goetz, who is an architect, was also invited to give a lecture on sustainability in architecture in the US.
Art in Embassies has provided us with an incredible opportunity to connect and exchange with Bahrainis through art: I held 5 workshops where I taught water color to high school and university art students as well as to emerging artists. The Embassy also partnered with Bait Al Salmaniya Cultural Center to exhibit my recent oil paintings for a month. These paintings were also showcased at the Ambassador’s home for a warm welcoming reception with Bahraini artists, educators and business representatives.
