ABOUT
Born into a Korean family in Tokyo, raised in the U.S. and having lived in Germany for a number of years, Bernadette Jiyong Frank is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been working in various visual media encompassing painting, photography and public art in the U.S. and abroad.
Frank has had solo exhibitions at Dolby Chadwick Gallery and Triangle Gallery (San Francisco), Galerie Beate Berndt (Augsburg, Germany) and Carnegie Institution for Sciences (Stanford). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (Sonoma), Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts (Tallahassee), Southern Exposure (San Francisco), Judy Saslow Gallery (Chicago) and Melissa Morgan Fine Art Gallery (Palm Desert) to name a few.
Frank is a recipient of the Fire Station #5 Public Art Commission by the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Bus Station by the Waterfront Public Art project in Whangarei, New Zealand. She earned a Silver Medal in the 2012 New Images Photography Awards. Frank was nominated for the Minnesota Street Project’s 2019 Tosa Studio Award in San Francisco and 2013 2 x 2 Solos Exhibitions at Pro Arts Gallery in Oakland.
Frank’s paintings and photographs are held in various public and private collections including the Crocker Art Museum, Triton Museum of Art and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Her work has been reviewed in SF Weekly, the SF Examiner and Augsburger Allgemeine, and has appeared in issues #103 and #121 of New American Paintings.
Frank is represented by Dolby Chadwick Gallery in San Francisco, Folly & Muse in Munich and Nicholson Art Gallery in Brussels.
